Introduction to 3-Axis CNC Machining
Workshops on Saturdays will be held in German while Thursdays will be held in English.
This workshop requires previous knowledge in CAM and post-processing.
Because workshop is part of the CAD–CAM–CNC process chain, we strongly recommend attending the „Autodesk Fusion 360 CAM for CNC Machining“ workshop prior to this hands-on machine workshop. If you have no experience in CAM post-processing please attend the „Autodesk Fusion 360 CAM for CNC Machining“ workshop first. In the „Autodesk Fusion 360 CAM for CNC Machining“ workshop you will learn how to set up your design for the milling. It covers setting milling paths, nesting your components and showcase the milling process – all in Fusion 360 CAM. These skills are essential to be able to create a GCode from you design that can be exported to the CNC mill and will not be covered in this „Introduction to 3-Axis CNC Machining“ workshop.
Within the six hours of this CNC workshop you will get an insight into wood-based 3-axis CNC machining and be enabled you to safely use MotionLab.Berlins 3-axis CNC mill.
This course is a prerequisite for using the machines independently in MotionLab.Berlin!
Price (per person):
- For MotionLab-Member: 140€

Goals and Skills
Within the six hours of this workshop you will get an insight into 3-axis CNC machining for wood and be enabled you to safely use MotionLab.Berlins 3-axis CNC mill.
The workshop will be all about the 3-axis Routermax 1325 CNC mill. First you will learn how to create a G-code from an exemplary design get familiar with the safety instructions in MotionLab.Berlins Woodlab. You will then train on MotionLab.Berlin’s milling machine and have gone through the process of planning and milling an examplary part using the 3-axis Routermax 1325 CNC.
At the end of the two days of this workshop you will be able to indepenently use the 3-axis CNC mill to work on your own individual projects.
Because workshop is part of the CAD–CAM–CNC process chain, we strongly recommend attending the „Autodesk Fusion 360 CAM for CNC Machining“ workshop prior to this hands-on machine workshop. Method
In six hours, you are going to learn how to
- transfer your file to the CNC machine
- operating the CNC machine with control software MACH 3
- create the GCode for the Routermax 1325 CNC mill
- mill the components on the 3-axis Routermax 1325 CNC
- safely use the Routermax 1325 CNC mill
Other material for the workshop will be provided and are included.
Note: This workshop can only take place if there is a required minimum of two participants reached. In case you are the only participant for this workshop you will be noticed 24 hours prior to the workshop and given an alternative date.

Johannes –
This course is led by the nicest, most patient and helpful people. I had very little knowledge about CNC practics before. Now I actually feel save using it.
I can definitely recommend to take part in this course if you want to know the CNC. Its a good proce for what you are learning too.
Caroline –
Using the 3-Axis CNC machine can be a daunting thought, but that certainly changed after completing this workshop.
The Berlin-Tech-Academy have once again found an excellent workshop instructor who is extremely patient and knowledgeable in his field.
The first interactions and hands-on experience during the course have made me feel a lot more confident using the machinery and with the prospects of creating and building future projects.
